The art of Braid

Being somewhat PC-centric, smaller console games can often slip past my radar, as appears to have happened with Braid. A rather pretty little platformer for the Xbox, it’s also apparently heading towards a PC release as well, with luck via the Steam delivery platform. Gameplay appears to be a mixture of standard platforming with Prince of Persia style time rewinding.

Regardless of that, Gamasutra have a fascinating article written by the game’s artist, David Hellman, in which he shares the stage-by-stage development of the game’s visual style. It’s pretty rare to see game art broken down into such an intricate history, and is well worth a read.
