Arms Race in final stages

Steamtech short film Arms Race is finally nearing completion, with the first pass at the grading having been completed pending some tests on different monitor setups (such is life when you can’t afford a properly calibrated setup). All the VFX shots are in, after what seemed like a bit of an endless slog. I suspect at least one of them will require further tweaking but at least the film is taking proper shape now.

Once the visual side is locked down I’ll be moving on to the sound mix (which is already partially complete) and sourcing some music. For this particular project we’re going to experiment with Creative Commons music – partly because we can’t afford a composer and partly because I’m intrigued to see what is out there for use by indie filmmakers. I’ll keep you posted.

Lots of hugely interesting stuff going on at FXhome, almost all of which I can’t talk about due to release schedules and big TOP SECRET signs. The more I see, however, the more I know it’s going to blow the frakking roof off the scene. I can’t wait. The new team (18 strong now) is doing fine work.

Over the last few months I’ve been a bit slack with the blogging due to having so many projects on the go (plus I felt a little burned out by the Digital Economy Bill debacle) but as they’re all wrapping up one by one I’m going to, with luck, make this place a little more active. It’ll be a focus for my writing, filming and professional musings, plus inevitable naive political rants, so I won’t be talking too much about holidays and ‘personal life’ stuff.

However, I did want to mention one personal thing: I am now engaged to the rather wonderful lady that I’ve been with these past few years. Those that know us will know the details. For everybody else – please forgive the indulgence, but it’s the kind of news you want to shout about. 😉
