Update: If you’re on the course, do link up via my profile and say hi by clicking here 🙂

Wayne recently clued me in to the existence of Future Learn, a website providing free education courses on a variety of intriguing concepts. Upon discovering it I immediately joined up to about 5 courses, all of which seemed to be happening in May. Coming to my senses I’ve now whittled that down to just two courses, one of which looks at games programming in October and another titled Start writing fiction, which begins today and is run by the Open University.

I’ve been writing most of my life, of course, but it never hurts to learn some new tricks and techniques. Apparently the focus will be on characters, which is definitely an area I’m rarely satisfied with in my own work.

Thus far the course seems well structured and designed, with a web interface that scales pleasantly across multiple devices, and lots of community interaction embedded throughout. I’m looking forward to getting to know some of the other students, of whom there appears to be many.

Incidentally, if any Future Learners have stumbled across my blog, check out the links on the right of the website to read some of my previous work. Feedback is, of course, very welcome.
